//UM Confucius Institute holds online academic seminars on “Language and Culture” – Part II

In October, the UM Confucius Institute has invited Professor Shi Chunhong from Beijing Language and Culture University, Chief Editor of Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies, and Professor Zhang Hongming from University of Wisconsin-Madison, President of International Chinese Linguistics Association, to conduct online academic seminars on “Language and Culture”. Professor Chen Zhong, Deputy Director of the UM Confucius Institute chaired and facilitated the discussion during the seminars.

On 14 October 2020, Professor Zhang conducted a presentation on the topic of “Some Issues Related to Linguistics in International Chinese Education”, and discussed the relations between linguistic theory and international Chinese teaching. Professor Zhang especially emphasized the importance of the linguistic learning of international Chinese teachers.

On 22 October 2020, Professor Shi delivered his presentation on “Three Basic Ideas of Construction Grammar” and introduced the meaning and importance of construction grammar, which can be applied in different areas and provides us with a new way of thinking about the world.
