The Confucius Institute at the University of Macau was invited to conduct Mandarin Language Workshops on July 15, 18, and 21 for the ‘Summer Camp for Outstanding Students of UM Partner Universities’ and the ‘East Lighthouse Talent Development Scheme – Learning Experience Summer Program for International Students’.

The workshop attendees came from Agostinho Neto University, Western Sydney University, University of York, University of Cape Verde, University of Malaya, Pedagogical University of Maputo, University of Ottawa, University of Sheffield, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hanyang University, Eduardo Mondlane University, Auckland University of Technology, National University of Singapore, University of Barcelona, and University of Warwick.

Visiting instructors Ma Yue, Li Haoxuan, and Xie Yining from the Confucius Institute designed the sessions with a “practical scenarios + interactive games” approach, covering topics such as greetings, self-introductions, and numbers. The multimodal teaching methods kept the classroom atmosphere lively throughout the workshops. Students had ample opportunities to practice speaking, and by the end of the sessions, all participants were able to greet others and introduce themselves in Chinese.
